Targeted Busy For Great Results
How do I get more sales? The answer is obvious; go see more people. Sales is a numbers game, the more you put in the funnel at the top, the more chance you have of success. That's not to say that you should go around willy-nilly trying to sell your product or service to everyone, It's a waste of time. A better path to greater success is thinking creatively about which activities you can put in place to create more business. Ask yourself, "What can I DO to create more business?"
Just DO Something
There are business cycles in any industry, and holidays, weekends and the weather have a big influence on your level of being busy. It's no good moaning that nothing is happening... just DO something. There are lulls, and if you use these lulls to your advantage, you will have more business than you know what to do with. Successful sales people have a list of things to do and people to see when it gets slow.
Sell More Stuff or Get More Clients?
But what can you DO to get more sales? You can sell more stuff to existing clients or get more clients. It's easier to keep a client than to find a new one. Here are some things you can DO:
- Look at your customer list and evaluate your services and their needs. Do you see an opportunity?
- Who in your community is like your favourite customers? Call them for an appointment.
- Evaluate your business. Who can really use your service? Make a list, and call them.
- Call your favourite customers. Invite them for a coffee. During coffee tell them you need their help and ask them for referrals.
- Evaluate your list of friends. You might be surprised to see that they are like your favourite customers. Call them for a coffee.
- Look at what's going on in your business community. Is there a Business After Hours you can attend? Go meet some new people. Aim for 5 new contacts. Call them for a coffee.
- Do you belong to a club? Is there anyone there you don't really know? Call them for a coffee.
Use Your Coffee Meeting Effectively
But what do I talk about? Start off with your 30 second Elevator Speech and ask for theirs. Then see if you have a match in needs and services or know someone who does. Don't forget hobbies, and family and...you get the idea. Treat it like a networking session. Aim for 2 coffees a week, and 10 activities a day related to your business.
Stay busy with targeted activities. By continually keeping your targeted activities going and replacing less successful ones with new ones, you have more ways you can gain more business. Whatever you DO, just DO something.
